Fantastic grant success: Inclusive WIL for future health professionals

We are pleased to share that members of the CRADLE team have been successful in winning an Australian Collaborative Education Network 2023 Research Grant!

Led by Dr Joanna Tai, with team members Dr Mollie Dollinger (DLF) and Professor Lisa McKenna (School of Nursing and Midwifery, LaTrobe), the $10,000 grant aims to improve inclusion in Work Integrated Learning (WIL) to support the future diverse health workforce. Each member of the team brings unique expertise to the project: Joanna on inclusive assessment design, Mollie on WIL and participatory methods, and Lisa on assessment in health professions education. The project builds on CRADLE’s previous research on inclusive assessment and WIL.

The project will firstly explore the necessary skills and capabilities for students to succeed in health professions as understood by health professionals and academics involved in WIL through a survey. Then, using a case study approach, the team will map how these skills and capabilities are currently integrated into WIL assessments. Finally, through participatory workshops, the team will collaborate with health professionals, academics and industry stakeholders to determine how course inherent requirements, assessment, and therefore WIL placements, could be more inclusive to diverse students and better align to industry expectations.

Look out for ways to participate in this exciting research in the coming months via the CRADLE blog and newsletter. Subscribe now!
