Handy teaching Powerpoint slides: Where to get help at Deakin

Teaching is underway for T2 and your students are just starting to get their heads around unit requirements for the trimester. Much information has already been circulated to them about the wealth of student support services that are available to them at Deakin. But in the early stages of the study period, often students don’t realise that they need or should seek help, and which service may be of most value. To make navigation easier, the Inclusive Education team have put together key student help services as a ‘just-in-time’ handy Powerpoint presentation.

What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and does it work?

The principles of UDL, which inform Deakin’s Inclusive Teaching Toolkit, aim to meet the needs of diverse language and learning skills through providing multiple ways for students to:
• gain knowledge
• demonstrate knowledge
• actively engage with their teachers, fellow students and study materials.

Quite simply, when applied appropriately, UDL principles do work! Yes, student outcomes improve.

See how a team of Deakin academic and professional staff created a great unit with UDL-based design for an introductory unit and achieved significant student improvement.
