CRADLE Seminar Series: Abelardo Pardo
30 May 2017
Associate Professor Abelardo Pardo spent the day with CRADLE on Monday 29 May and gave a seminar on his work on “Connecting data with student support actions at scale”.
He provided a comprehensive overview of previous research in the learning analytics field, and linked it to one of the key sticky areas: feedback. A/Prof Pardo highlighted the need for data collected via learning analytics to be interpreted within its context to develop meaning. He advocated for the use of this information to feed back to students during the course of their studies, in addition to devising changes for future course delivery.
A/Prof Pardo also shared his current efforts with the OnTask Project which is slated to be released open source at the end of the year. Through this project it is hoped that learning analytics will be used in real time to support student actions and reactions. Finally, A/Prof Pardo promoted the interdisciplinary nature of learning analytics work, and invited submissions to the LAK 18 conference to be held in March 2018, in Sydney.
