UPDATE Confirmed case of COVID-19 at Burwood Campus: information for students
Further to the Confirmed case of COVID-19 at Burwood Campus: information for students of Friday 1 October, the Department of Health and Human Services has advised that Laboratory M2.102 has been deemed a Tier 1 exposure site for Monday 27 September only between 1pm and 4pm. Everyone who we have identified as having visited M2.102 on Monday 27 September between 1pm and 4pm has been contacted directly and instructed to get tested and isolate.
The Department has now confirmed Deakin has taken the appropriate steps to contain the outbreak, and we are permitted to resume any paused operations, subject to the current lockdown requirements. Deep cleaning of the on-campus exposure sites has been completed to the satisfaction of the Department, and they have approved the re-opening of buildings M and V.
We encourage everyone in the Deakin community to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested immediately if any symptoms develop.
A drive-through testing facility has been established at Deakin Burwood Campus in Carpark 12 which can be accessed via Uganda Street, Burwood. Opening hours are 8am to 6pm daily. Alternatively you can access a COVID testing site close to you.
We acknowledge that this is a very difficult time for many people. If you require support we encourage you to seek assistance via the student health and wellbeing services.
Important information for students
Our campuses remain closed, with access limited to essential staff and those students living on campus. Current exemptions still apply for health and biomedical science students and some final-year students attending experiential learning.
If you do need to attend campus, you must:
- Always carry and wear your face mask, indoors and outdoors.
- Adhere to all COVIDSafe practices, including check-in via the COVIDSafe QR codes.
- Self-check and stay home if you’re unwell – use the Symptom Checker testing and quarantine guidance.
- Complete Deakin’s COVIDSafe module before attending a campus for the first time.
- Maintain good hand hygiene and use the hand sanitiser available.
Playing your part and staying well.
We strongly encourage eligible students to take up the opportunity for vaccination as soon as they are eligible. Regardless of any current restrictions, you’re allowed to leave home and travel to get vaccinated.
- With more than 30,000 vaccination appointments available in the next 7 days, we strongly encourage eligible students to book now.
- Deakin Medical Centres is offering Pfizer appointments to current patients.
If you’re concerned you have been at an exposure site:
- you must visit the Victorian Government exposure site listing and follow the instructions carefully.
- If you feel unwell, you must get tested promptly at a COVID-19 testing site and follow the instructions.

How do I access support and assistance?
- Student Central: Student Central Hubs on our campuses remain temporarily closed. You can continue to access a range of Deakin support services online. If you have a question about your enrolment or course, finances, or other issues, contact Student Central.
- Deakin Medical Centres: Remain open for free and confidential face-to-face or telehealth consultations. By appointment only – book online or by phone. You must always wear a face mask.
- Counselling and Psychological Support (CAPS): Students located in Australia can talk to one of our highly skilled social workers and psychologists. Telehealth appointments only – book online or by phone.
- Safer Community: If you feel unsafe or need to report sexual harm or family violence, contact the Safer Community team online, by phone or by email.
- Disability Resource Centre (DRC): The DRC is available Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm via phone or email.
- Financial assistance: If you’re in financial difficulty, visit our Financial Assistance website for more information and contact a Financial Assistance Officer for personalised support. Financial support during COVID-19 is also available from the Victorian Government.
