Is your student visa expiring soon?
As an international student, you must hold a valid student visa while studying in Australia. It is your responsibility to make sure your enrolment details at Deakin are up-to-date and in compliance with your visa conditions.
Why would I need to apply for a new student visa?
If you plan to extend your studies at Deakin beyond the date your visa will expire you will need a new student visa. Unfortunately, there is no way to extend the duration of your existing visa. In order to stay longer in Australia and study at Deakin, you will need to apply for a new student visa. You can do this only if your current visa is not subject to a No Further Stay condition and you hold a pre-qualifying visa.
You will need a new visa if:
- you cannot complete your course before the visa expiry date, or
- you have submitted your postgraduate research thesis, or
- you are going to commence a new course of study.
Remember: you should apply for your new student visa at least 6 to 8 weeks before it expires.
How do I apply for a new student visa?
The student website has a step-by-step checklist of what you need to do to lodge your application with the Department of Home Affairs.
Before you submit your application with the Department of Home Affairs, you must first obtain a new Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from Deakin in order to complete your visa application. You can also find the online request form to apply for a new CoE on the student website.
The student website has all the information you need to submit your application for a visa extension, including information on how you must meet specific enrolment requirements at Deakin to avoid risking your CoE being cancelled.
