Our campuses are now open and we can’t wait to welcome you!
With Victoria reaching the 90 percent double vaccination milestone for people aged 12 and over, most restrictions have been lifted. We’re very excited to announce our campuses are also now open.
We want Deakin to be the safest possible environment for study and work, which means ensuring all students, staff and visitors attending the campus are as close as possible to being fully vaccinated.
Our focus is on ensuring that life on campus returns as fully as possible from the beginning of 2022. Based on the Victorian COVIDSafe statewide settings, all public spaces are now open to staff, students and visitors who are fully vaccinated or hold a valid medical exemption. We strongly encourage you to get vaccinated.
Government roadmap update
From Friday 19 November: Phase D (90% vaccinated)
- No limits or restrictions on seeing friends and family.
- Workplaces open to fully vaccinated people, with COVIDSafe plans and check-ins managed using the Service Victoria App.
- Higher education open to those who are fully vaccinated or hold a valid exemption. If you’re not fully vaccinated, you cannot enter unless you cannot be taught online (see details below).
- If you’re fully vaccinated, you can attend sporting and recreation facilities (for example, sports grounds, gyms and swimming pools) and sporting events.
- Masks are required indoors only in limited settings, including retail, health care, aged care and justice facilities, at primary schools and on public transport/taxis/rideshare.
- To understand the requirements to access goods and services, you should check the COVIDSafe settings.

What this means for Deakin campuses
The following timeline explains the staged approach we’re taking to opening our campuses for those who are fully vaccinated. We’ll also continue to implement all recommended measures to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission on campus, such as check-in across our campuses, mask-wearing during high-risk activities and where physical distancing cannot be maintained, and using hand sanitiser.
From Monday 22 November
- All Deakin campuses are open to fully vaccinated people or people with a valid medical exemption.
- Students and staff must complete Deakin’s Vaccination Status form, including uploading your proof of vaccination, before attending campus.
- Students who are not fully vaccinated and are not eligible for a medical exemption, and need to attend campus for experiential learning activities, may be eligible for transitional arrangements. Please contact Student Central if you need to discuss these arrangements.
- Some areas of campus – for example, cafes and other public spaces – will not be accessible to those who are not fully vaccinated and do not hold a valid medical exemption, as determined by regulations in the Victorian Government Roadmap.
- During Trimester 3, classes remain online, with experiential learning activities scheduled on campus from Monday 22 November for fully vaccinated students or students holding a valid medical exemption.
- Placements require vaccination as negotiated with providers.
- Masks must be worn during high-risk environments/activities or where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
- All students, staff and visitors must check in using the Service Victoria App to access the campus.
From Monday 31 January 2022
- In Trimester 1/Semester 1 2022, we’re getting back to campus: many classes, seminars and hands-on learning activities will be delivered in person, underpinned by Deakin’s digital learning environment, with students and teachers actively collaborating to bring learning to life.
- All on-campus students will be expected to be fully vaccinated.
- Cloud students may continue their studies online without vaccination, but we strongly encourage vaccination for the entire Deakin community.
