International students, have fun in May with these awesome activities!

You’re nearly halfway through your first trimester at Deakin! We hope you have gotten to know your campus, worked out your study routine and – most importantly of all – made some new friends.

If you’re still feeling a bit unsettled, or would just like some tips on how to make the most of your time in Australia, make sure you join our May CONNECT activities. Autumn in Victoria is a lovely season, so join us for some fun-filled outings to give you a taste of life beyond your campus!

Everything is free and arranged for you, so just enjoy the sights and sounds of your adopted home and make new friends along the way!

Queen Victoria Market Hawker Night, Melbourne

Operating since 1878, the Queen Victoria Market is a Melbourne icon. It’s the largest open-air market in the southern hemisphere and is packed with amazing fresh produce and speciality shopping, including lots of Aussie souvenirs!

During April and May, the Night Hawker Market offers incredible Asian street food, as well as free live music and cultural performances. Come along to experience the great vibe while you get to know other commencing international students.

Tenpin bowling and dinner, Geelong

Tenpin bowling is a great way to have some laughs and meet other students! You don’t need any experience for this non-contact and inclusive sport. It doesn’t matter if you hit a strike or the gutter – we’d love you to join us!

Dinner will be provided after the game, so there will be plenty of opportunity to chat with other new international students and share a bit about yourself.

When: Thursday 11 May, 3.15–7pm
Where: OZ Tenpin Bowling, Belmont

It’s not too late to CONNECT!

Our CONNECT program gives you lots of other opportunities, including free health checks, come-and-try sport sessions and wellbeing workshops. If this is your first trimester as an international student at Deakin, we encourage you to try as many activities as possible – you’ll make new friends, practise your English skills, explore your campus, discover Deakin’s support services and learn about Australian culture.
