Would you like to broaden your horizons and your boost your CV with an unforgettable international study experience? Join York University’s Las Nubes ecoCampus in June–July for an immersive cultural experience in the stunning forests of Costa Rica.
You’ll study while working with local communities to promote sustainability of healthy and gratifying rural lifeways that are respectful of, and in harmony with, the natural environment.
The Las Nubes program focuses on experiential education, building on long-standing relationships with diverse communities and groups in southern Costa Rica. These include women’s organisations, agricultural cooperatives and producers, environmental protection and social justice groups, and Indigenous communities.
This is an intensive course with no breaks, except for half a day to catch up on work. It is also physically and emotionally demanding, so it’s important that you consider these factors before applying.
How it works
This is an exchange program, so you don’t pay any tuition fees to York University – you’ll pay or defer your unit fee to Deakin. You’ll have to pay for your own flights, visa, accommodation and personal travel costs.
The program is worth one credit point towards your undergraduate degree. To be eligible, you’ll need a minimum WAM of 60 and must have completed two years of study. You can choose from the following electives:
- Extraction and its Discontents (approved as level 2 elective towards the International Relations or Politics and Policy Studies major)
Examines current political, economic and social debates concerning extractive industry, placing these in the context of longer histories of global imperialism and colonialism. Find out more and apply now. - Community Psychology (approved as level 2 Psychology elective)
Examines various topics related to community psychology, including theories and research, prevention and early intervention, community mental health, the community practitioner as social change agent, and applications of community psychology to various settings and situations.
