Help young people from diverse backgrounds by becoming a DEAP Mentor
Are you passionate about equality and opportunity for all? We’re looking for students to become mentors to young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds as part of the Deakin Engagement and Access Program (DEAP).
The program aims to give young people from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to study at university. As part of this program, we employ DEAP Mentors to work with young people and help run activities, including online, on-campus and off-campus workshops, tours and training.
These are casual paid positions open to all students currently enrolled at Deakin, including international students.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll be a good communicator who works well in a team and is confident about presenting to a group. You have a genuine interest in working with young people from diverse backgrounds, and have some understanding of the barriers that can prevent them from accessing university.
You need to be capable of communicating effectively with faculties, secondary school staff and students, and other educational institutions external to Deakin.
You’ll also have a Current Working with Children Check or be willing to obtain one.
Why you should apply
Becoming a DEAP Mentor will support your study goals and help develop your future career. You’ll receive access to workshops and training, including engaging an audience, public speaking and inclusive workshop development.
But who better to explain the benefits than some actual mentors?
