If you’re an international student based overseas, here’s how we can help you during COVID-19
Diversity is one of Deakin’s greatest strengths, and our international students are a very valued part of our community. While many of you are currently studying from overseas due to COVID-19, we’re still here to help you every step of the way. If you need assistance with your studies, there’s a range of support you can access.

Financial support
For many students, one of the hardest parts of living with COVID has been the financial impact. There’s a range of support options available, so visit our financial assistance webpage for information about interest-free loans, financial counselling and other help. If you think you need significant support, contact Student Central. Our Financial Assistance Team will work with you one-on-one to discuss support options.
Course and enrolment advice
If you have any concerns about your enrolment, talk to a Student Adviser from Student Central. They can help you with course and unit advice, full-time and part-time study options, intermission and visa compliance advice.
If you need specific help with personal and learning issues related to your health and wellbeing, you may be referred to an International Student Support Officer (ISSO) for further support.
You can book a phone or Zoom appointment with a Student Adviser up to 30 minutes in advance.
Study help
If you’re struggling with your work or assignments, there’s fantastic help available through our Study Support resources and programs. You can also:
- Apply for an assignment extension of up to two weeks. You must contact your Unit Chair before the assessment due date.
- Apply for special consideration for assignments and exams.
Health and wellbeing support
Your health, wellbeing and safety is so important. While unfortunately our medical and counselling services are only available to students based in Australia, we encourage you to access our digital resources and other support:
- Visit our Ask Counselling blog to see what issues other students have been struggling with, and for advice from Deakin counsellors. There’s specific sections on international students and COVID-19, so you might pick up some handy tips from other students or just feel less alone.
- Explore our eWellbeing Hub. This collection of informative and practical articles and apps will help you stay healthy, motivated, in control and happy while you’re studying.
- Access disability support if you have a disability, health or mental health condition that affects your study.
- Chat to one of our multifaith chaplains, who offer compassionate support to everyone, whether religious or not.
