New publication from Deakin Criminologist Dr Emma Russell
Deakin criminologist, Dr Emma Russell, has just published in Crime, Media and Culture. In an article entitled A ‘Fair Cop’: Queer Histories, Affect and Police Image Work in Pride March, Dr Russell explores the symbolism of Chief Commissioner Christine’s Nixon’s participation in the Victoria Pride March in 2002. While largely interpreted as a progressive step for police-LGBTI relations, Dr Russell argues such commentary and impression management may over-estimate the progress in the relationship between the police and the community.
