Victorian Postgraduate Criminology Conference 2023: Criminological futures: challenges and change
Event date: 6th November 2023
The Victorian Postgraduate Criminology Conference (VPCC) is an annual event that is co-funded and co-organised by four Victorian Universities with criminology programs: Deakin University, The University of Melbourne, Monash University, and RMIT University. The free conference provides a venue for postgraduate and higher degree research students to present and discuss their research, learn from more senior researchers, and meet other early-career researchers in this field. This conference was developed in the spirit of bringing together the many criminology postgraduates of Victoria. Given the current period of growth for criminology in Australia, it is only appropriate to create a framework for collaboration, integration and knowledge-sharing amongst the emerging generations of criminological researchers. With all the wonderful criminology events happening across Victoria, this is an excellent opportunity to showcase the emerging talents across all involved universities in one annual event.
Past Victorian Postgraduate Criminology Conferences have led to collaborations between higher degree researchers, faculty and HDR students attending the event, leading to greater networking opportunities and meet-ups. In its 6th iteration, the VPCC has held conferences in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022. Held at Deakin Downtown, the conference will help foster a culture of research excellence among its cohort of higher degree research students through offering them a crucial free event to gain experience presenting their research to a constructive audience. Moreover, the conference will offer cross-university connections to build greater relationships and networks within criminology.
This year, the keynote address to be delivered by Deputy Director and Associate Professor Bridget Harris from Monash University. Also, our professional panel will include Dr Mary Iliadis, Deakin University senior lecturer and early-career researcher; Dr Dave McDonald, Melbourne University lecturer and early career researcher; Dr Greg Stratton, RMIT senior lecturer; and Ms Akuch Anyieth, La Trobe graduate researcher and author.
