Want to gain valuable experience and boost your CV? Help us welcome new students to Deakin in 2023!
As rewarding as it can be, starting university can feel a bit overwhelming at first. Looking back, is there anything you wish you knew when you arrived in Australia or began university?
We encourage you to join our new Friday Friends program as a student leader, so you can apply what you have learned during your time at Deakin.
What will the Friday Friends program involve?
The Friday Friends program will be delivered as a series of casual 1 hour social catch-ups every Friday for the first four weeks in Trimester 1, 2023, to give all commencing students opportunities to meet new friends and feel supported during their time at university. If you become a Friday Friends Leader, we ask that you commit to at least one trimester with the program, and if you enjoy the experience we hope that you will stay part of the program in future trimesters, too!
The program also aims to help new international students transition to life in Australia by gaining cultural awareness and forming social connections with others at Deakin and within the wider community.
What would I be doing as a Friday Friends leader?
As a Friday Friends Leader, you will be matched with a group of new international students when the program begins and will help support them during their first trimester at Deakin. As a leader, you will have the opportunity to connect with new students, provide insights of your experience and knowledge of Australia and your local community in a social, informal setting.
Why join?
Becoming a Friday Friends Leader is a great opportunity to enhance your CV and make new friends from all over the world. Plus, you will also receive a free Deakin hoodie (pictured left) and free food/coffee vouchers when attending Friday Friends social sessions!
Apply now to become a Friday Friends leader! Applications close on 24 February.
