The Commonwealth Games are coming to regional Victoria from 17–29 March 2026! The multi-city model means the Games will be held across five regional centres, hosting 20 sports and nine fully-integrated para sports.
What events will be held in Geelong?
The city of Geelong and surrounding regions will feature the following 2026 Commonwealth Games events:
- The 2026 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony
- Aquatics (Swimming, Para Swimming and Diving)
- Beach Volleyball
- Coastal Rowing (Torquay)
- Golf (Bellarine Peninsula)
- Gymnastics (Artistic)
- Hockey
- Triathlon and Para Triathlon
- Weightlifting & Para Powerlifting.
To deliver the Swimming, Para Swimming and Diving, a brand-new aquatics centre will be established in Armstrong Creek, and a new facility will be created in Waurn Ponds to host the Weightlifting, Para Powerlifting and Artistic Gymnastics events.
Have your say on the proposed Commonwealth Games village in Geelong!
The Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games will see four Games villages constructed in Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Morwell, and Design Guidelines are currently being prepared for these four regional villages.
Design Guidelines have been developed to provide direction for the layout of the villages supporting the experience for visiting international athletes, with consideration for the long-term legacy outcomes that each village will provide to residents in the regional centres of Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Morwell.
The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee is seeking feedback on the Design Guidelines to understand community members’ perspectives on what makes the village sites special and what could help them transform into vibrant and sustainable communities in future.
The survey will remain open for your feedback until 4 December 2022.
