Your guide to T2, 2022 exams: how to sit your exams from home and where to go for help
The Trimester 2 final assessment period is getting closer – exams run from Monday 10 to Friday 21 October 2022. Make sure you’ve ticked off all the important pre-exam tasks – from checking your exam timetable and unit sites to confirming your time zone.
With most exams and final assessments delivered through your CloudDeakin unit site, now’s the time to ensure you understand how to sit your exam from home.
How to prepare your exam space and IT needs
Start setting up your space now to ensure it’s well lit, comfortable, quiet and free from distractions. To reduce the risk of any technical disruptions, here’s a pre-exam IT checklist:
- Make sure your internet connection is stable (and running at an adequate speed) now. Check again early on the day of your exam to avoid technical issues before or during your exams.
- Use supported/preferred Web browsers – we recommend that you run a system check before you log in. Update your browser if necessary – using an outdated browser may prevent you from being able to view or edit previous responses in an online quiz.
- If you’re using a laptop, make sure it’s charged or connected to a power source before you begin your exams.
- Depending on the exams for your individual units, you may also need a functional webcam, speakers and/or microphone.
And during your exam …
As you’re sitting your exam, make sure you:
- Save your work regularly.
- Use an accepted file submission type: documents that are subject to Turnitin Originality reports need to be in one of the following formats: Word, PDF, PowerPoint or Excel (.doc, .docx, .pdf, .pptx or .xlsx). If you use alternative file types, your assessment task may not be able to be processed or marked. Maximum file size is 100MB for Turnitin Originality reports.
- Keep file names to under 30 characters and do NOT include special characters; for example: , : ; ~ / ! @ # $ % ^ & * + | ( ) { } [ ].
- Allow plenty of time to upload/submit your exam at the end. Check your unit site or seek advice from your Unit Chair about the duration of your exam.

How special consideration works
Special consideration is intended to help you deal with short-term or unexpected setbacks like medical problems or other personal hardships. You’ll need to provide documentary evidence such as a medical certificate and/or statutory declaration – but conditions apply.
Technology issues aren’t normally grounds for special consideration where the full allotment of exam time (exam duration plus reading and technical support time) has been provided – unless your technical difficulties cannot be resolved in the time available for you to complete the task.
As soon as you experience any technology issues, contact the IT Service Desk. If your technical difficulties can’t be resolved in the time available for you to complete the assessment task, you must include the IT Help support ticket number when you apply for special consideration.
For all exams, you’ll need to apply for special consideration via StudentConnect no later than three working days after the due date of your final online exam. Visit the Special consideration webpage for full details on how to apply for this trimester.
