Attend the launch of the Boomers’ new SBS Viceland docuseries, featuring elite-athlete student Ezi Magbegor
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers, presented in association with Deakin University, are excited to launch their docuseries, Sidelined: The Fight for Equality in Women’s Basketball.
This independently-produced four-part series, which chronicles the Boomers’ 21–22 Championship winning season, will premiere on SBS Viceland at 4.45pm on Sunday 18 September. It will also be available to stream via SBS On Demand, and on Kayo and Fox Sports from 26 September.
Set against the backdrop of the 42nd season of the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL), it follows the Deakin Melbourne Boomers as they attempt to overcome gender inequality, lower pay, racial discrimination, and the constant pressure to justify their experience as female athletes in a sporting landscape dominated by men.
The docuseries aims to effect positive change and redefine the narrative, as we’re granted unrestricted access to witness the team’s rawest and most authentic moments. Tune in to see Deakin elite-athlete student Ezi Magbegor (pictured), who is currently studying a Bachelor of Psychology, share her experience! The episodes will air each week with the finale screening on 9 October.
