Your campus library is now open 24/7 until the end of Trimester 1
We know it is news many of you have been waiting for – our libraries at Burwood, Waterfront and Waurn Ponds campuses will now be open 24/7 for the rest of Trimester 1! If you need a quiet spot for a late-night study session, we’ve got you covered.
What areas of the library will be accessible?
Burwood Campus
- All floors will be open and staffed from 8am–9pm, Monday to Sunday.
- Level 2 will be open 24/7.
Waurn Ponds Campus
- All floors will be open from 8am–5pm, Monday to Friday.
- Staff will be available from 8am–9pm on Monday to Friday and 1–5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
- Level 2 will be open 24/7 (in case of low demand, access may be reduced to only the computer lab overnight).
Waterfront Campus
- The library will be open 24/7.
- Staff will be available from 8am–9pm on Monday to Friday and 1–5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Warrnambool Campus
- Ask our staff about the 24/7 study lab on campus.
Will library staff be available at later hours?
We’ll still maintain our staffed hours from early until 9pm, so you’ll be able to access all of our floors and collection, as well expert guidance from our library advisers, for a significant portion of each day. Outside of staffed hours, you’ll have access to loads of comfortable and quiet study spaces, shelves of resources and our whole digital collection.
You can also contact us via email, chat or phone – we’re available until 11pm every day.
For the overnight hours, a security guard will be on-site to ensure your safety.
Can I check out/return items overnight?
You can use the Deakin Borrow app or the self-checkout near the Service Desk to check out resources. As usual, you can use the return slot on the outside of the building to return resources at any time.
Will rooms or booths be bookable overnight?
No – study rooms and booths will be available on a first-come, first-served basis outside of staffed hours.
If you have any other questions about the 24/7 access at the library, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
At Deakin, your safety is our priority
When you’re on campus, our Deakin Security team is working hard to keep you safe. They can escort you to your car at night or help you if you see something that makes you uncomfortable. All our officers are also trained first-aid responders.
There’s some easy steps you can take to maximise your personal safety while on campus:
- Download and register the SafeZone app, which connects you directly to Deakin Security and sends them your location if you need help. You can also call Security directly on 1800 062 579.
- Check out our safety tips for when you’re on campus. This includes some advice for when you’re in places like the library, at a student residence or in a carpark.
- Read Deakin’s My guide to personal safety, which outlines what to do and who to contact in a range of emergency situations.
