Do you feel included at Deakin? Share your experience and you could win $100!
At Deakin, we value diversity, and welcome people of all backgrounds, cultures, abilities, genders and other identities. We want our university to be a place where everyone feels safe and respected and has a strong sense of belonging.
While inclusion is one of our core values, we’re asking our students – the heart of Deakin – if this vision matches the reality.
We’re inviting you to participate in the Inclusion and Wellbeing Student Survey 2022, which is a university-wide online survey that will help us to measure our performance on inclusion – where we’re doing well and where we’re falling short.
It covers experiences of inclusion, belonging, stress, poor mental health, safety and treatment by other students or staff members.
Why you should have your say
Completing the survey allows you to express your views and describe your experiences of being a student at Deakin. Your feedback gives us the chance to learn, plan and focus on the areas, programs and services that need the most attention.
We know your time and feedback is valuable, so to say thanks we’re giving away 10 x $100 Coles Myer gift cards to participants. You just need to opt in to the prize draw when prompted. Read the competition terms and conditions.
The survey is anonymous, and participation is voluntary and confidential. Any contact information provided to enter the prize draw will be stored separately from your survey responses.
How to complete the survey
On Tuesday 15 March, every current student received an email from Lisa Hanna, the Dean of Students, encouraging you to participate in the survey, which is open until Thursday 31 March.
The survey is digitally accessible and you can find it online at deakin.edu.au/iwss. It has six core sections:
- About you
- Disability and mental health conditions
- Studying @ Deakin
- Wellbeing
- Inclusion & belonging
- Improvements.
Once you’ve completed these topics, you’ll be randomly assigned into one of the following sections:
- Stream 1: Mental health literacy
- Stream 2: Experiences & support.
Some sections may take longer to answer than others, depending on your responses. In total, the core section should take around 15 minutes to complete, while the additional section could take up to eight minutes to complete.
Support is available
We understand that some of these topics may make you feel uncomfortable or cause distress. You can withdraw at any stage, and the survey includes links to counselling and support services. We also encourage you to find out more about the health and wellbeing services available at Deakin.
