What’s on at the NGV this summer?
Located in Melbourne’s stunning Arts Precinct which bookends the leafy boulevard of St Kilda Road, the NGV provides a perfect haven in the summer months. Beat the heat as you wander in search of beautiful treasures before heading into town or the neighbouring Alexandra Gardens to debrief over a meal – a perfect day out!
Deakin University is proud to be the principle partner of the current must-see NGV exhibition Maree Clarke: Ancestral Memories. Currently on display until 6 February 2022, this is the first major retrospective of Melbourne-based artist and designer Maree Clarke, who is a Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung woman. Celebrating the customs and artefacts of her Aboriginal culture and heritage, Clarke’s contemporary works incorporate a captivating blend of multidisciplinary techniques and materials including photography, printmaking, sculpture, jewellery, video, glass, and more.
For the fashion aficionados among us, the popular Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto exhibition is now also on display at the NGV until 25 April 2022. As the first Australian exhibition to showcase the iconic creations of the renowned French couturière, this is your opportunity to get a first-hand glimpse of the exquisite details in the historic outfits, jewellery, accessories, cosmetics and perfumes featured. Learn about the woman behind the luxurious label and how Chanel ultimately influenced and transformed fashion conventions throughout the twentieth century.
