HDR students, do you need any support? DUSA’s Advocacy service can help!
Being an HDR student is a unique experience, and becoming an expert in your field of study is such an impressive achievement. But it can be a stressful and lonely journey that may sometimes feel never-ending.
Do you ever wish you could talk to someone who understands what you’re going through? A knowledgeable and informed sounding board can help you to work through the processes of a PhD, the relationships, the struggles and the triumphs.
Well, help is here! DUSA’s Student Advocacy and Support Services (SASS) can offer you help and advice on a range of HDR academic matters. Our friendly Advocates will support you in the following ways:
- Explaining the process if a Progress Support Panel is established and attending these meetings with you.
- Discussing your options if you receive a Proposal to Terminate from Candidature.
- Talking about any supervision issues or research progress.
- Helping you to respond to an allegation of student misconduct, academic integrity or research integrity and attending any relevant meetings.
- Supporting you with any concerns and complaints.
- Discussing the intermission process and supporting you with any requests.
We can also help in other ways
It’s not easy to juggle study and other responsibilities. If you ever find yourself struggling financially or dealing with an emergency, we offer a range of easily accessible resources, including:
- financial counselling
- free breakfast every Wednesday during T1 & T2 teaching periods
- basic food items and clothing
- transport assistance
- emergency gift cards
- sexual health items and personal hygiene products.
Advocates can also refer you to relevant internal and external support services who may be able to provide additional support.
