Learn how to help someone who’s experienced sexual harm: free online workshop
Would you know what to do if someone came to you for help because they’d experienced sexual harm?
Sexual harm and gender-based violence is a serious issue facing the entire community – and it is everyone’s business. At Deakin, we’re committed to ensuring a safe, inclusive and respectful study and work environment for all students and staff.
If you’d like the knowledge, skills and tools to respond appropriately to someone who tells you about an experience of sexual harm (including sexual assault, sexual harassment and other forms of sexual misconduct), attend our free online workshop: Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Harm.
When: Wednesday 4 August, 2–3pm
REGISTER NOW
The interactive workshop will use a strengths-based approach and draw on a hypothetical scenario to explore three key topics:
- recognising sexual harm
- responding appropriately to a disclosure
- referral options.
The session will be delivered by Dr Lee FitzRoy, who is Deakin’s Coordinator for Sexual Harm Prevention, Diversity and Inclusion. She is an experienced practitioner who has worked in the family violence, sexual assault and child protection sectors, and previously taught social work at Deakin and RMIT universities.
So if you’re interested in building your leadership and interpersonal skills, register now – but hurry, there is a limit of 20 spots available.
Content warning: The workshop contains descriptions of sexual harm and may trigger past trauma. Participants are advised to make their own assessment on the suitability of this workshop. For more information, please email Dr Lee FitzRoy.
