Road and accessibility upgrades at Waurn Ponds
Waurn Ponds Campus will soon be safer and more accessible for everyone, following some improvements to the traffic loop outside Building JB. This includes two new accessible parking spaces, additional speed humps and a bus stop outstand.
Construction will begin this Saturday 19 June and should be complete by mid-July. Given this falls during trimester break, disruptions should be minimal. If you do plan to be on campus during this time, take note of the following traffic access changes and other impacts:
- Public vehicle access beyond Building DA on Alfred Deakin Drive will be closed. Access will be restricted to University service vehicles only.
- All vehicle access to the main work zone at the Building JB traffic loop will be closed, but pedestrian access on the footpath will remain open.
- The shuttle bus stop will be temporarily relocated to the public bus stop area, on the student residences side of the road, opposite the vehicle turning loop next to Building DA.
- Temporary fencing will be installed to enclose the work zone.
- There will be intermittent construction noise, including machinery, banging and drilling.
- Tradespeople will be moving through the area, working and transporting materials.
The below site plan shows access points during these works (click on the image for a full-size version):
If you’re near the work zone, please watch your step, follow safety and directional signage, and move with caution.
We appreciate your patience while we continue to improve accessibility across our campuses.
