Do you want to stand out to prospective employers and give yourself a competitive edge? Consider doing some hands-on workplace experience in your area of interest through a business or law Work Integrated Learning (WIL) internship or placement unit.
Deakin offers a range of amazing opportunities to enhance your discipline-specific skills and boost your CV, and you can earn academic credit at the same time. So read on to see what’s available in Trimester 2 – applications are now open!
Law students
Before you apply for the below opportunities, take the chance to find out how it all works at our upcoming WIL information session on Tuesday 27 April, 10–11am. Register now to attend in person or online.
What’s available in T2:
- Legal Internship (MLL351): one credit point – complete a minimum of 15 days on work placement in a legal environment with an external organisation. You’ll learn skills such as client interviewing, fact-finding, alternative dispute resolution and negotiation, providing legal information, legal research, problem-solving and advocacy.
- Deakin Law Clinic: one credit point – do your placement at this community legal service and teaching law firm based in Melbourne. Under the supervision of qualified legal practitioners, you’ll analyse complex legal problems and develop critical skills for a career in the law, including analytical, drafting, oral communication and problem-solving.

Business students
What’s available in T2:
- Interns in Industry placements (MWL318/MWL718): one credit point – as part of our collaboration with Whitehorse, Knox and Maroondah councils, undergraduate and postgraduate students can do a placement of between 100 and 120 hours with an allocated local business. Choose from opportunities in accounting, banking and finance; business analytics and information systems; economics; financial planning; human resources and recruitment; marketing and event management; property and real estate; and supply chain management.
