Deakin Criminologist Dr Diarmaid Harkin awarded Faculty teaching award
We are delighted to announce that Lecturer in Criminology Dr Diarmaid Harkin has been awarded the Faculty Excellence in Teaching (Early Career) Award. In 2015 Diarmaid taught into first and second year undergraduate units offered as part of the Bachelor of Criminology at Deakin. This award recognises the quality of Diarmaid’s teaching.
The last month has been very busy for Diarmaid. He was unable to accept the award in person at the Faculty Forum as he is currently in Ireland undertaking fieldwork research. He has also recently presented his research on punishment and punitiveness to the School of Social Sciences at Monash University (11th November), at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at City University New York (17th November) and at the American Society of Criminology in Washington DC (18th November). His paper, ‘The Punishment Family’ explores the multiple ways punitiveness manifests itself.
