It’s never been solved and continues to evoke mystery with the thrill of hidden themes and motifs. Elgar dedicated the work ‘to my friends pictured within’. All mystery aside, Elgar’s Enigma Variations is simply beautiful music. Add the famous Cello Concerto and the concert overture Cockaigne, and you have a sumptuous all Elgar afternoon conducted by Richard Davis showcasing the Geelong Symphony Orchestra.
