Happy Harmony Day: check out your global playlist now!
Today is national Harmony Day (Friday 21 March) – part of the annual Harmony Week (Monday 17–Sunday 23 March 2024) during which we reflect on and celebrate our diversity.
Australia is pretty special: we’re home to the world’s oldest continuous living cultures as well as people from more than 200 countries, with more than eight million people in Australia being born overseas. That makes us one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse populations in the world.
And thinking beyond just cultural differences, Harmony Day and the overarching Harmony Week is all about embracing inclusiveness and a sense of belonging for everyone, no matter what your background may be. It’s a nationwide celebration of respect for all of us who call Australia home.
Likewise at Deakin, we all belong. We are proud of our diverse community, and we value the different perspectives each of us bring to the University.
Want to know more about Harmony Week or get involved? Visit the Harmony Week website to explore resources, register your event or check out what’s already happening in your area.

We recently asked you to help us create a Harmony Day Global Playlist that showcases the range of cultures, influences and backgrounds that make up our Deakin community. And did you deliver!
We’re streaming the playlist on campus, so listen out for your requests! You’ll hear all your favourite tunes playing in Student Central and at other locations across campus. You can also download the playlist here via Spotify for all your study and party needs.
Haven’t submitted a song yet? There’s still time to share a tune to feature in our Global Playlist – tell us your favourite track from around the world and go in the draw to win a Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker NC300 (valued at AUD$268)! Entries close at 5pm on Sunday (23 March), so get your requests in now! Terms and condition apply.
