Be the voice of students: join our Business and Law Student Experience and Engagement Committee!
In the Faculty of Business and Law, we know that our most important stakeholders are you – our students. We are currently seeking expressions of interest for the Student Chair and Student Representative membership of the 2025 Student Experience and Engagement Committee (SEEC).
You could help to influence and enhance the study journey of all Business and Law students, while adding to your CV, so it’s a win-win!
Let’s hear Sasha, our 2024 SEEC Student Chair, explain why you should get involved
What did you get out of the role?
The SEEC Student Chair role provided me with a lot of experience and networks that I would not have been able to obtain elsewhere. I was able to co-chair meetings with the academic chair Dr Wendy Webber and created a survey to address student concerns and subsequently raised this with a larger group for discussion. I was also able to interact with faculty staff on a higher level, and understand how staff and students work together to create a welcoming, friendly and accommodating faculty. This is an extremely invaluable experience which helped refine many of my soft skills that will support my career growth, such as chairing meetings, public speaking, effective communication and advocacy.
Why is the role important?
The SEEC student chair is a critical role in the Business and Law Faculty because it gives students a voice. It allows you to raise issues impacting students and be part of the discussions that work towards finding a solution. The Student Chair does not work alone. The Student Chair co-chairs meetings with the Academic Chair and is supported by the Peer Support and Transition team. The supportive nature of the committee means that the Student Chair is a liaison for Student Societies and other Student Cohort Representatives. The committee meets three times a year where we were able to thoroughly discuss issues in a way that seeks to provide resolution for everyone, as opposed to theoretical discussions and impractical outcomes.
How did you serve as a voice of the students?
SEEC is a voice for students because it is a platform for students to raise issues and concerns to an understanding group of Business and Law staff. SEEC is committed and incredibly passionate about making student experience better for everyone, and there has not been a single issue that they have failed to acknowledge. Whilst the committee cannot solve every issue facing students, they certainly work hard to ensure that all practicable and reasonable steps are taken to make students feel heard and understood. This is the core value of the committee that makes them great advocates for Business and Law students.
How to get involved
The first step is to complete an Expression of Interest form. This includes information on why you’re interested and your relevant qualifications and experience.
