16 Days of Activism: join the Walk Against Family Violence

Do you wish to see a future where we are all safe, respected and equal?

Gender-based violence refers to any type of harm that is perpetrated against a person or group of people because of their factual or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation and/or gender identity. In their lifetime, one in three women are likely to experience gender-based violence.

16 Days of Activism is a campaign that aims to facilitate awareness about the prevalence and impact of gender-based violence. It runs annually from 25 November to 10 December.

Deakin will commemorate the start of 16 Days of Activism with Orange the World on 25 November. Orange symbolises a brighter future, free of violence. So, we are encouraging everyone to wear orange with us. The Deakin cubes will be lit orange for the duration of the campaign in line with the international campaign colours.

Whether you’re looking for more ways to get involved in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence or you’re ready to get your summer reading list sorted, Respect Victoria has pulled together a few recommendations to get you started. These suggestions cover a range of topics including the lived experience of victim survivors, feminism, promoting healthy masculinities, equality and inequality, and preventing family and gender-based violence.
