Do you want to make a creative impact and see your design come to life on a commercial product? Then get your imagination firing because we want a current student to capture what Deakin means to you in a piece of art that will, if deemed the winning entry, adorn an exclusive The Somewhere Co. lunch satchel!
Enter our Product Design Competition where you’ll have complete creative licence to make something memorable: make it fun, make it vibrant and make it relevant to student life at Deakin. And if your design is the chosen one, not only will you gain bragging rights to your very own bag design, you’ll also pocket a $200 VISA card for your efforts!

Create and submit an original artwork in response to the competition theme: ‘What Deakin means to me’. The artwork could include various aspects of university life including studying, socialising, living on campus, diversity, innovation, accessibility, community engagement, sustainability, or any other elements that resonate with you.
Once you’ve finished your artwork, submit it via the entry form below, including a brief description (of no more than 100 words) explaining the inspiration behind the piece. Any physical artwork, such as a painting or drawing, can be submitted via photographs for initial judging (the judging panel may reach out to organise further viewing if necessary). Please note you may only submit one entry.
Entries close 5pm on Friday 12 July 2024, with the winner being determined by the judging panel on Friday 2 August 2024 in Burwood.

Information on how to enter forms part of these Terms and Conditions. By entering, entrants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and entries must comply with these Terms and Conditions to be valid.
This competition is governed by the laws in force in the state of Victoria, Australia.
The competition
The competition is free to enter and is strictly only open to current Deakin students. These students must also complete and submit an entry in the manner set out in the Terms and Conditions.
Entrants may only enter the competition once.
Staff employed by Deakin and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter the competition.
Competition period
The competition opens Monday 3 June 2024 and closesFriday 12 July 2024 at5pm.
Prizes
There will be a prize pool of one VISA gift card valued at $200 for one winner. The winner will also receive exclusive printing of the winning artwork on 300 The Somewhere Co. lunch satchels, your own lunch satchel for personal and portfolio use, plus an invite to and acknowledgement during the 2025 Career Practitioner Seminar at Deakin’s Melbourne Burwood Campus in February 2025.
The total value of the prizes is $200.
How to enter
Students must complete their details (name, Deakin email address, mobile phone number, student ID, course, campus, artwork description of no more than 100 words) plus upload a file of your artwork (or photograph of a physical artwork). The Panel may reach out to the entrant to organise further artwork viewing if necessary.
Selection and notification of winner
The winner will be reviewed and judged by a Panel of the Promoter’s Future Students staff (“The Panel)” at Burwood on Friday 2 August 2024 at 12pm AEST. The Panel will judge each response according to the following criteria: creativity and originality; interpretation of the theme; technical skill; relevance; inspiration; and emotional impact.
The winner will be notified by a phone call on Friday 2 August 2024.
The Promoter reserves the right to reject, disqualify and remove any submission that contains offensive, inappropriate or derogatory material. Any Submission containing such content may be deemed invalid at the discretion of the Promoter.
Prizes are not transferable and are not redeemable for cash. All decisions of the Panel are final and binding – no correspondence will be entered into. Deakin accepts no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected entries or other communications. Entries will be deemed void if forged, manipulated or tampered with in any way.
Entrants consent to Deakin using their name, image or voice for promotional purposes. Entrants agree to make themselves available for a photograph and interview in the event that theirs is the winning entry and if requested by Deakin.
The winner consents to their name and photograph being published on Deakin social media and other digital channels if requested to in any and all forms as determined by the Division of Student Services.
Privacy collection, use and disclosure statement
Personal information provided to Deakin University by entrants will be used to notify the winner of the competition. A photograph of the winners may be published on Deakin University’s social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, WordPress and Instagram and other digital channels such as the Deakin Life blog.
Deakin University complies with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) in its treatment of personal information. Entrants have a right to access their personal information held by the University. Requests for access to personal information are managed under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic).
