Future Business and Law leaders, applications for these conferences close 31 May!
If you’re a high-achieving Business and Law student looking for the chance to demonstrate and expand your leadership skills, your faculty is offering two amazing conference opportunities in 2024.
Check out the details below and submit your expression of interest before 3pm Friday 31 May.
University Scholars Leadership Symposium
Where: United Nations Conference Centre – Bangkok, Thailand
When: Monday 5 to Saturday 10 August 2024
Number of places available: four students
Four Business and Law students will be selected to attend the University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS) set to take place at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
Candidates must be between the ages of 17 and 30 and have a current passport at the time of the June interview which is valid for travel and entry to Thailand in August 2024.
Last year, our students had the opportunity to participate in community projects, attend workshops, and listen to inspirational speakers. One of our students, Kai Crosby, reflected on the impact of the symposium, stating, ‘There is importance in making a positive difference amongst friends, family, and the community you are in’. Another student, Mirna Arivalagan, was deeply moved by the resilience of the speakers, stating, ‘His insights on influential leadership provided practical tips for effective communication and self-presentation, skills that will undoubtedly shape my future endeavours’.
National Leadership Forum
Where: Canberra, Australia
When: Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 August 2024
Number of places available: two students
Held at Australia Parliament House, this forum is a melting pot of ideas where students hear from parliamentarians, executives, and local community leaders about what leadership means to them. Two students will be selected to attend.
Candidates must be aged between 18 and 26 at the time of the conference as per the forum’s requirements.
Tahlia Lane, one of the students who attended last year’s forum, shared that, ‘a huge part of the dialogue centred around exploring servant leadership, and the idea that “if service is beneath you, leadership is beyond you”‘. Shen Marana Gonzalez, another student who attended, learned that ‘leadership did not have a universal definition’ and that ‘the most effective strategy [of being a good leader] is listening’.
Who can apply?
If you’re a current Business and Law student (both undergraduate and postgraduate considered) who has completed at least 25% of your course with a WAM of 75+, we encourage you to apply. Please ensure you are available for a Zoom Selection Interview on Tuesday 18 or Wednesday 19 June.
Your costs for flights, conference registration and twin share accommodation will be covered by the faculty. You’ll need to cover other costs such as meals, travel to and from the airport and incidentals not covered by the conference.
