Whether you vape or not, take our survey on vaping – you could win one of four $50 gift cards!
We want to learn more about our current students’ experiences with vaping. Do you currently vape? Have you previously vaped but decided to quit? Do you socially vape? Or perhaps you’ve seen other people vaping and been wondering about it. No matter your experiences, vaping can affect everyone in various ways, and we’re interested in learning more about current attitudes and habits.
Vaping – inhaling vapour using an e-cigarette – is a relatively new practice, and many people think it’s safer than smoking. While the long-term health implications aren’t yet fully known, vaping can still put nicotine or other chemicals in your body, is addictive and can cause serious lung damage.
Recent research conducted by the Minderoo Foundation indicates that three in 10 young people (aged 14–25) have vaped in the past 30 days. Of those who have vaped, four in 10 now feel addicted to vaping.
A 2022 study also found that vaping has doubled among young Victorians in the last few years, with those under 30 years old representing more than half of all e-cigarette users, and young women now vaping five times more since 2018. It’s not just existing smokers taking up vaping habits either: 77,000 Victorians – a quarter of those who overall reported vaping – had never smoked before. And, unfortunately, 58% of those who used e-cigarettes reported they usually vaped nicotine.
Read these busted myths about vaping.
Victoria has strong vaping laws – it’s illegal to:
- buy or sell an e-cigarette or any liquid that contains nicotine without a doctor’s prescription
- sell an e-cigarette or a liquid intended to be used in an e-cigarette (even if it does not contain nicotine) to someone under 18.
Share your thoughts and you could win!
