Boost your CV by helping other SEBE students in T2
Have you achieved excellent academic results in your Science, Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE) course? If you’ve completed at least two trimesters of study (or one trimester if you’re a postgraduate student) and have a WAM of at least 70, apply to become a SEBE peer mentor in Trimester 2!
Why should I become a SEBE peer mentor?
Peer mentors play a very important role in helping new SEBE students settle into life at Deakin. But it’s great for you, too! As a mentor, you’ll:
- boost your communication, cultural awareness, creative problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- gain leadership experience
- develop workplace-ready skills and behaviours
- extend your professional and social networks
- build up your self-confidence
- receive professional development.
These are some of the qualities that will give you a highly competitive edge when applying for your first job after you graduate.
This is a volunteer role, but as a mentor you may be eligible for a $700 grant – eligibility criteria apply, so find out more.
What’s involved?
During the first five weeks of T2, you can expect to spend approximately two hours per week:
- mentoring commencing students during the scheduled sessions
- supporting events that foster engagement with the faculty and wider University community.
You’ll also need to be available to attend a half-day training session at Deakin Downtown on either Wednesday 21 or Thursday 22 June, and provide a current Working with Children Check.
