A new Multideck Carpark is on its way to Waterfront Campus
Construction is set to begin on the new Multideck Carpark at the Waterfront Campus.
The new carpark is being built to provide replacement parking for when Development Victoria commences the construction of Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre, which will be located on the land where Car Park 2 currently sits. It will be positioned between Brougham St and Smythe St on the site of the current Car Park 3, next to the Geelong Waterfront Student Accommodation.
What will the new carpark be like?
The goal of the project is to create living architecture, with particular emphasis on sustainable construction materials, to create a visually interesting building that integrates with the existing landscape.
The Multideck Carpark will offer more than just replacement parking – it will also boast electric vehicle charging stations, a gym, a yoga studio and an activated laneway to be used for market stalls or university/public events.
When will the works begin and how might it affect me?
Project construction is scheduled to commence in November 2022, with completion expected by the end of 2023. While the build is underway, there will be some pedestrian detours surrounding the site and you can expect to see high levels of construction activity, including heavy machinery and tradespeople in the area. Signage and traffic management will be in place to assist with wayfinding.
Throughout 2023 and until the Multideck Carpark is complete, parking availability at the Waterfront Campus will be reduced. Please consider alternative transport options where possible and plan your journey ahead of time.
