Participate in the 2022 Deakin University Diwali Festival!
The 14th annual Deakin University Diwali Festival will once again be located at our stunning Waurn Ponds Campus.
Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, an annual celebration that signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. It’s a joyful milestone celebrated by people across the world irrespective of their culture or religion.

There will be:
- cultural performances
- a DJ
- food and market stalls
- free activities and henna art
- a rangoli artwork display
- a spectacular fireworks display!
This is a free family-friendly community event.
Want to take part in the event?
The Diwali organising committee is now looking for performers and volunteers.
Performance opportunities include:
- traditional and modern Bollywood dance
- solo and group performances
Unfortunately we will not be having musical performances this year.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- rangoli art (activity taking place on Thursday 27 October at the Waurn Ponds Campus)
- assistance with decorations/event set-up/event pack-down
- event assistance including providing directions, stage hand duties, marshalling.
Volunteers will be required to attend one of our online briefing sessions (approximately one hour in duration) two weeks prior to the event. Duties will be divided into shifts across the day of the event ensuring you will still have time to enjoy the festival.
Transport options may be available for Deakin staff and students from the Burwood Campus pending interest.
