Melbourne lockdown extended by seven days until 11.59pm on Thursday 19 August
The premier today announced the extension of Melbourne’s lockdown until 11.59pm on Thursday 19 August. Deakin’s Burwood Campus remains closed to students and staff, excluding essential staff and those students living on campus. Exemptions also apply for health, biomedical science and some final-year students attending experiential learning.
Restrictions in regional Victoria remain the same as announced on Monday 9 August.
Read the full table of restrictions for Melbourne and Regional Victoria and the Victorian Premier’s announcement.
Learning and other uni activities
As previously advised, all classes and seminars will remain online until after the intra-trimester break, Monday 23 August. At that time, and subject to restrictions, we will return to the regular timetable.
Experiential learning is permitted for some healthcare and final-year students, and in regional Victoria some experiential and practical learning opportunities have recommenced. Unit sites contain the most up-to-date information.
Clinical placements, other placements and work integrated learning
Approved student health and medical placements (including those beyond the five-kilometre limit and where regional students need to enter metropolitan areas) continue where partner institutions remain open. Unit sites will have the most up-to-date information.
In regional Victoria, work integrated learning may return to face-to-face delivery, be offered online or be postponed. Students impacted will be contacted.
Please note: Student activities can occur across the regional/metro divide without a permit. See your unit sites and Deakin email for updated information.
Staying motivated
For many of us, the ups and downs of the COVID situation are starting to take an emotional toll.
We know the ongoing disruptions and challenges of intermittent lockdowns or restrictions can make both your uni and personal life a bit of a rollercoaster, so it’s crucial that you take care of yourself, physically and mentally.
If you start to feel excessively stressed or anxious, withdraw from friends and family, or notice unusual symptoms or emotions, it might be wise to seek some help.
Ask for help
