Help to write Australia’s first youth-led national security strategy
Would you like to make a long-term contribution to Australia’s national security? If you have some innovative ideas on how to overcome emerging threats, and would like to build relationships with academics, industry figures and policymakers, then here is an opportunity not to miss!
You could be one of 42 young Australian leaders who in December will co-author a policy paper addressing our nation’s next set of strategic challenges. The Youth National Security Strategy (YNSS) will showcase the next generation’s fresh perspectives on issues such as supply chain security, economic coercion, climate change and disinformation.
How it works
The YSNN kicks off in September with a 10-week digital phase. Participants will be sorted into one of six working groups, who will meet weekly via Zoom to discuss and debate Australia’s evolving strategic challenges. Discussions will be guided by a moderator and framed by issues like disinformation, cyber, public health and food security.
There will also be regular digital events featuring eminent figures in the national security space in a series of Q&A, panel discussion and in-conversation formats.
The highlight of the YNSS will be a week-long symposium at the Australian National University (ANU) in December. Participants will test their ideas with experts and industry leaders, hone their skills and ideas, expand their peer and professional networks, and gain co-authorship credits on the published strategy document.
