Showcase your thesis and win cash prizes!
As an HDR student, you’re probably pretty practised at explaining the intricacies of your research to industry peers and your supervisors. But how good are you at ‘selling’ your complex work to the everyday person?
Here’s your chance to present your research in a clear, concise and compelling way to a general audience. Refining your topic into an enticing elevator pitch will help build your presentation, communication, interview and creative skills – oh, and you could win some cold hard cash along the way.
Deakin is currently running two thesis competitions – here’s what’s involved.
Three Minute Thesis (3MT)
How it works
- You need to effectively explain your research in three minutes in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.
- Initial rounds are organised by schools and faculties, with finalists from each faculty/institute going through to the University final. This will be held in conjunction with the Visualise Your Thesis final on Thursday 19 August.
- The overall Deakin winner will take home $2000, with $1000 for the runner-up and $500 for the People’s Choice (awarded by the audience).
- The winner will represent Deakin in the Virtual Asia-Pacific Competition in October. The overall winner will receive $5000.
- See the 2021 Virtual 3MT Handbook for more information about drafting, formatting and recording.
Who’s eligible
- You must be an active PhD or Professional Doctorate (research) candidate who’s successfully completed your confirmation of candidature.
