Deakin car at previous Pako Festa Parade

18 January 2024

March with Deakin in the 2024 Pako Festa Parade!

Pako Festa is Victoria’s premier free multicultural festival, held annually in Geelong West’s iconic Pakington Street. From its humble beginnings 40 years ago, Pako is all about community. The event celebrates and highlights the extraordinary contribution of individuals, cultural groups and multicultural communities in Geelong and across Australia.

Managed by Cultura, this festival is the biggest of its kind in Australia! It includes an extravagant street parade which forms a sea of colour and costume, with hundreds of performers bringing the street alive and representing local community groups, schools and organisations.

We are looking for Deakin students, staff and alumni to march in the parade.

To celebrate the diversity of our community, you are encouraged to wear traditional cultural dress. Alternatively, we will provide you with a graduation gown or Deakin t-shirt.

To thank you for your participation, you’ll also receive a free Village movie voucher.

Sounds great – count me in!

When: Saturday 24 February 2024, 10am–12.30pm (parade begins at 11am).

Where: Corner of Pakington Street and Waterloo Street, Geelong West.

Please register your details by Friday 16 February 2024. There are only 50 positions available so get in quick!

The entire parade route will take about one hour to complete, so please register only if you have the necessary physical stamina and wellbeing.
