Feel fabulous this February! Choose a DeakinACTIVE fitness class or challenge and start the year strong
Welcome to 2022! We hope you’re feeling rested and renewed from your holidays and ready to tackle your goals for the new year.
As we enter February we’re still blessed with beautiful summer weather and it’s the perfect time to enjoy our great outdoors, but if you’re feeling a little partied out from the festive season or could use some help reaching a specific fitness goal, the team at DeakinACTIVE are here to help!
No matter what your New Year’s resolutions may be, we can help you make the most of the year ahead by showing you how to increase your energy, reduce feelings of stress and feel more connected to your fellow students.
Ready? Let’s get started!
Remember: access to campus remains limited, as per Victoria’s Roadmap. Only fully vaccinated staff, students or visitors (or those with an approved exemption) may attend campus and while on campus you must always follow Deakin’s COVIDSafe plan. Read more in Deakin’s COVIDSafe FAQs and DeakinACTIVE’s COVID-19 information.
If you are planning to visit the gym, don’t forget to carry and wear your mask. Current public health advice states that masks must be worn indoors, including when you visit DeakinACTIVE.
Choose your February challenge
We have two great fitness challenges to get you firing this month! Join us via the DeakinMOVES app.
- Move It Your Way Challenge: Collect 25,000 MOVES for the month of February. Want to up your tally? Try tracking your incidental movement throughout the day or really amp things up by attending our group fitness classes and daily workouts on the app!
- Fit for February Challenge: It’s time to burn those through those holiday indulgences – can you burn 5000 calories for the month of February? Everyone who achieves this target will win a FREE bodyscan at DeakinACTIVE!
Terms and conditions apply so check out more details on the DeakinMOVES app, and keep watching the DeakinACTIVE Instagram and Facebook channels for more info about our challenges!
See you at the gym!
Welcome to our All Abilities Safe Space Program
Be fearless. Be proud. Be accessible. Come and join DeakinACTIVE’s Safe Space program! Every Wednesday from 7–10am*, DeakinACTIVE invites people of all genders, abilities and identities to come and join the Deakin Fearless movement and train at any of our in-campus health facilities at no cost – and with no obligations.
If you belong to the LGBQTIA+ community, or have any kind of physical, sensory or mental disability, we encourage you to come and work out with us! During these hours, the lights will be dimmed and the music volume kept low to provide a welcoming sensory environment for everyone. Our main aim is to get everyone moving in a safe and welcoming environment and feeling comfortable to do so.
* Warrnambool hours may differ so please check with your gym.
Group fitness classes are back!
Do you need the extra motivation to get moving by attending a group fitness class? Our small group classes at the Burwood and Waurn Ponds gyms provide personalised training within a fun and social environment, and can really push you to get the most out of your workouts!
We have a variety of group fitness classes on offer – with morning, lunchtime and evening classes for your convenience – so there’s sure to be something to suit your tastes! Check out what classes are running at your campus by checking the schedule on the DeakinMOVES app or the DeakinACTIVE website.
Current opening hours
Please see the operating hours for your local campus gym on the DeakinACTIVE website.
- Burwood and Waurn Ponds gyms: As more students come back onto campus, please note we’ll be reviewing and extending current hours towards the end of February. Stay tuned to our DeakinACTIVE Instagram and Facebook channels for updates.
- Warrnambool gym: The gym will re-open on Tuesday 8 February.
Access issues at Burwood: Please note the PCR Testing Centre located on the corner of Elgar Road and Uganda Street (in the car park of the Burwood Campus) is causing some access disruptions to DeakinACTIVE (Building LC) for our members and staff, depending on queue lines.
Please be mindful of potential access delays and consider these alternate options for safe access to DeakinACTIVE:
- On-campus parking is currently still free and readily available on the Burwood Highway side, with a short walk and direct access to Building LC via the pedestrian bridge over Gardiners Creek Trail.
- Street parking is available around Gardiners Creek Trail, with direct pedestrian access to the lower-level car park of Building LC.
- Pedestrian access via Uganda Street is not impacted by testing lines – so walking, bike riding, public transport, or street parking on Elgar Rd may also be an option.
Enjoy the month, keep MOVEing and we look forward to seeing you in the gym soon!
