Your campus Library is now open 24/7
Great news for early birds, night owls and everyone in between – in 2026, all Deakin campus libraries are moving to 24/7 opening hours.
Whether you’re finishing an assignment after work, meeting with your study group on the weekend, or just prefer quiet study spaces at night, you can now access your Library whenever you need it.
Here’s what’s changing and what you’ll need to know before heading in.
Which campus libraries are open 24/7?
Burwood Campus (from 2 February)
- Swipe card access at the Library entrance
- Level 2 will be accessible 24/7
Waurn Ponds Campus (from 12 January)
- Swipe card access at the Library entrance
- Level 2 available 24/7
Waterfront Campus (from 12 January)
- Swipe card access via Building D (John Hay Building)
- Entire Library (Level 3, Building D) available 24/7
Warrnambool Campus (already 24/7)
- Swipe card access at the Library entrance
- Levels 1 and 2 available 24/7
When are staff available?
While physical spaces are open 24/7, Library staff will continue to offer dedicated staffed hours.
Check the latest staffed hours on the Library website before visiting if you need borrowing help, research support, tech assistance or advice from specialist teams.
What do I need for after-hours access?
After staffed hours, entry is Deakin swipe card access only.
You must bring your swipe card to enter – no exceptions.
Can visitors use the Library after hours?
Visitors, including alumni and community members, are welcome during staffed hours only.
Outside staffed hours, access is available exclusively to current Deakin students and staff with their Deakin card.
Can I still borrow items at night?
Yes. Items located on 24/7 accessible floors can be borrowed anytime via Self-Checkout machines or the DeakinBorrow app.
Some physical collections may not be accessible after hours if located on closed floors.
