Would you like to join the library team?

The library is now recruiting student assistants to join our team in 2022!

This is a fantastic opportunity for students who have completed their first year of study and who are continuing with their studies at Deakin in 2022.

You will have the opportunity to develop valuable work-related skills such as communication, customer service, teamwork and time management, giving you some real-life experience to include on your resume.

This is a casual role with the flexibility to fit paid work in around your studies and other responsibilities. Applicants from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

What does the job involve?

The role includes assisting with tasks such as responding to client inquiries, leading library tours, maintaining library spaces and managing the collection.

Roles are available at our Burwood, Geelong Waterfront and Geelong Waurn Ponds campus libraries.

Regular work outside business hours is required, including evening and weekend shifts.  These roles are casual and paid at the HEW 1 pay rate for casual staff.

What do our student assistants say?

Here is what a couple of our student assistants had to say about their experiences working with the library:

‘The opportunity to be a student assistant helped me improve my confidence by engaging with other students and library staff. The library has been a supportive and accommodating workplace to my studies.’

–Chloe, student assistant at Waurn Ponds campus library

‘Working in the library was a valuable experience. It allowed me to enhance my interpersonal skills through constant interaction with peers. I was also able to work on my leadership skills and autonomy through Oweek tours and events. As well as this, the supportive team environment and community amongst the library staff was wonderful to witness and be a part of. Finally, working in the library as a student allowed me to increase my own personal knowledge of the available resources (textbooks, online resources, specialist liaisons and much more) that can be acquired from the library!’
