Sue Chen

Sue researches and teaches historical and contemporary children’s and young adult literature. She is the author of Children’s Literature and Transnational Knowledge in Modern China: Education, Religion, and Childhood (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019) and Representations of China in British Children’s Fiction, 1851-1911 (Routledge, 2013). Her current research project focuses on science, children, and the environment in children’s literature, 1845-1945.

Sue’s research interests include: nineteenth-century children’s literature and culture; book history; print culture; childhood studies; picture books; children’s media. She is currently President of the Australasian Children’s Literature Association for Research. She is also on the editorial board of Children’s Literature in Education.
