Quick Q&A: Leigh’s first impressions of Deakin

New student Leigh has just begun a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science/Bachelor of Nutrition Sciences at our Burwood Campus. We bumped into him on a campus tour and quizzed him on how he’s settling into Deakin life.

Hi Leigh! What are your first impressions of Deakin?

My first impressions are that it is a large campus – larger than any school I’ve been to before – so it will be challenging, but I can’t wait to get started and have a greater understanding.

How was Orientation for you? Did you come on campus for OWeek and how were your online sessions?

I came onto campus for a day as well as joining one other Zoom call during OWeek. The online sessions were good and I think everyone who ran them did a great job. But I still much preferred coming onto campus to have a look around for myself and get myself prepared for the first week back.

What’s your favourite part of campus so far?

I like the space that Morgan’s Walk provides for everyone and the atmosphere that it generates when there are events occurring on campus. I think that the campus is very organised, which will help me get around and find my way.

What have you already learnt about being at uni and how have your first few weeks of classes been?

I’ve learned that uni is not necessarily as scary as I thought it would be! I’ve been able to ease into some of my classes before it becomes more full-on towards the exam period.
