About International Open Access Week
According to OpenAccessWeek.org:
Open Access Week is an invaluable chance to connect the global momentum toward the open sharing of knowledge with the advancement of policy changes and the importance of social issues affecting people around the world. The event is celebrated by individuals, institutions, and organizations around the world, and its organization is led by a global advisory committee, which selects each year’s theme. The official hashtag of Open Access Week is #OAweek.
New services: Copyright for publishing and more!
Research groups can now request a presentation about copyright for research via the Request a librarian presentation (research topics) form. We have recently added two copyright topics to our menu:
- Copyright and Your Research: Copyright issues can impact how your research is conducted, submitted, accessed and published. Our team finds that often researchers aren’t thinking about copyright until they are ready to submit something for publication or access. Discovering copyright issues at the tail end of your research journey can create a lot of problems and stress. This session will help you consider and navigate copyright issues as they arise in your research, so that you can share your research confidently.
- Copyright and Publishing: Publishing is a significant part of the research journey. People are often so focused on the goal of getting published that they haven’t thought about the implications of copyright concerning what they are submitting to be published, as well as the implications their publishing agreement may have for the future of their research. This session covers information about rights for publishing third-party materials, understanding publishing agreements and the requirements for managing rights under Creative Commons.
The Request a librarian presentation (research topics) service provides a ‘menu’ of 30-minute research-related presentations that members of the Deakin research community can request on demand. There are several topics available related to the library’s areas of expertise in research. All presentations are 30 minutes long and requesters can also request time for Q&A. Please note that at least two weeks’ notice is required for all requests.
Reminder: upcoming changes to Footprints
Footprints, the enterprise tool for Research Data Management Plans (RDMPs) and dataset records, will go through some changes later this year. We will upgrade to Version 3 of the ReDBox platform, bringing several improvements to user experience, functionality and workflow integration. This will make it easier for you to develop your RDMP and share your research with the wider community by creating a dataset record for Deakin Research Online (DRO). Please stay tuned via this channel for further updates on release dates, webinars and resources as they become available.
Hot tip: Use Where Should I Publish? (WSIP) to find pre-paid open access publishing options
Are you on the hunt for an open access journal in which to publish that won’t break the bank with hefty Article Processing Charges (APCs)? Look no further! We’re here to guide you in finding the right publication without the financial strain.
- A good place to start is the Where Should I Publish? Tool (aka WSIP). This user-friendly resource allows you to search for journals by title or keyword, as well as by ARWU category or Fields of Research codes. Each journal entry provides useful details such as journal publisher, journal ranking and impact factor. Most importantly, you can establish if the journal participates in our Read and Publish Agreements, in which Article Processing Charges (APCs) for open access publishing are waived.
- Once you have identified a journal in which to publish, click on the Publishing Guidelines link to be taken to the Open Access: Publishing Agreements guide for instructions on how to submit your manuscript, under How to use this agreement.
With the WSIP Tool at your fingertips, you can discover the right open access journal for you, ensuring your research reaches a wider audience without the financial burden of high Article Processing Charges.
