Dr Jodi McAlister is a Lecturer in Writing and Literature at Deakin University. She graduated from Macquarie University in 2015 with a PhD in English and Modern History, and has since been an Associate Lecturer in English at the University of Tasmania and a 2017 Associate Investigator for the ARC Centre for Excellence in the Study of the History of Emotions.
Jodi’s research focuses on representations of love, sex, romance, and emotion in popular fiction and culture, particularly that directed towards women. She has published her research in journals such as Sexualities and TEXT, and in numerous scholarly book collections. She is currently preparing the manuscript of her first monograph for publication. She writes regularly about her research for a non-academic audience, including regular recaps of The Bachelor/ette Australia TV shows for the website Book Thingo.
Jodi is also an author of young adult fiction. Her trilogy of novels – Valentine (2017), Ironheart (2018) and Misrule (2019) – is published through Penguin Teen Australia.
Jodi’s most recent publication is ‘”Couple goals”: Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir as Celebrity Romance Text at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.’ Celebrity Studies, published ahead of print, 2019, pp. 1-20.
