Educating for Growth

New buildings application successful
The Shire Council and Bilby Primary School are delighted to jointly announce the success of their tender for new buildings at the primary school.
This was a joint submission, including application to the Departments of Education and Infrastructure. With the greatly increased population and increasing numbers of young children, the Bilby school is bursting at the seams. And it’s in a regional area which is contradicting the usual move away from the land and becoming a booming town and district. ????
There is no doubt the two departments were impressed with the professionalism and united approach in the tender documentation.????

The project will be funded by a state government special initiatives grant, provided for educational and community programs that are multipurpose, innovative and flexible.
The school buildings themselves are going to be unique — a microcosm of a wetland will be constructed in the new courtyard, demonstrating how an ecosystem can work. There will also be three interactive classrooms with provision for a withdrawal space for computers. The main construction will be a lovely multipurpose hall, with shade sails on the northern wall incorporating a new playground, which has all the children excited. There are plans for community performances, displays of children’s work and pageants with the music department and local Bilby choristers.
As the school principal Merryl Stipes indicated, ‘we need to share this, get classes going in the hall, have computer classes at night. Get the whole place alive. It’s a great opportunity to increase the usage of this splendid new acquisition.’
