Mentoring Opportunity – DECAF Research Peer Mentoring Program- applications due by 29th July

DECAF Peer Mentoring Program 2020 Flyer (003)

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce the Deakin Early Careers Academic Futures (DECAF) Research Peer Mentoring Program 2020, see attached flyer.

The Program aspires to enable peer-support, co-learning, career development and connectivity within Deakin, and to create opportunity, increase research capability and bring inspiration.

DECAF will be available during the period August 2020 to November 2020, to all levels ongoing academic staff from the Faculties of Arts & Education, Health and SEBE and associated Institutes. Applications open tomorrow, 15 July and close on 29 July.

DECAF is modelled to a successful pilot led by A/Prof Anna Kilderry (Arts & Ed) and A/Prof Antonina Mikock-Walus (Health) at their respective faculties in 2019. It is a separate program to that of the existing Mentoring Partnership Program (MPP).

The DECAF program is coordinated by the Graduate Research Academy (GRA). Matching of mentees with a more experienced researcher will be based on expressions of interest data and availability. The process will be led by nominated DECAF champions from the Faculties and Institutes, who are familiar with the applicants’ research interest ad personalities. It will occur in the Faculties/Schools and Institutes that are participating in the program. Numbers will be capped for each School/Institute depending on capacity.

DECAF meets the aims of Deakin’s LIVE Agenda: Grow research capacity, depth and breadth (Ideas) and Staff engagement and satisfaction (Experience).  Participants will be acknowledged for their involvement in a program of strategic significance while on a journey of a shared discovery.

Please join me in welcoming and supporting this researcher development initiative that aims to help academics and researchers at different stages of their careers to discover new career perspectives, connect with relevant people and networks, and enhance their sense of achievement.

Kind regards,

Alfred Deakin Professor Matthew Clarke
