Wireless security update – eduroam ‘pop up’ expected
Each year we need to make an update to our wireless network at Deakin to ensure our network ‘certificate’ remains secure.
The certificate is part of the complicated process which happens behind the scenes each time a device connects to eduroam.
From 30 July, we are swapping certificate providers (kind of like when you swap phone providers, say from Telstra to Optus) and that means when we make the change, you might see a pop up for the first time on your device – this will ask you to ‘accept’ or ‘trust’ the new certificate to stay connected to Deakin’s network (eduroam).
With the wide variety of devices out there, some may ask you to ‘accept’ or ‘trust’ the new certificate when prompted, and you may also need to restart your device.
What do you need to do?
The following pop up may appear if you are using a Windows computer:
Please press ‘connect’ and restart if prompted.
If you are using a Apple device, it may display the following:
Please press ‘trust’ and restart your computer if prompted.
Apple users may need to jump through a few additional prompts where you’ll need to press ‘trust’, ‘continue’, and ‘update settings’:
With so many different devices out there, there may be some cases where the internet connection will need to be reconfigured.
Lost your connection to eduroam after the change?
If you have lost your connection to eduroam or need to reconfigure your connection, we recommend deleting the old profile, and following the Knowledge Base article’s instructions to reconfigure.
Here’s some more information on how to troubleshoot connecting to eduroam.
Tried all of the above and still can’t connect to eduroam when you’re on-campus?
