Your loan periods are changing

As of 1 August, Deakin Library is changing the length of loan periods for items you borrow.

Previously, the length of a standard loan would depend on what kind of library user you are – such as undergraduate, postgraduate, staff or community member.

Now, almost all library users (On campus, online, Deakin College, Deakin Co, DUELI, Deakin staff, PhD, Disability Resource Centre students) can borrow general loan items for 30 days. Some high-demand items such as popular unit textbooks will be categorised as ‘2 hour (Reserve) loans, meaning they can be borrowed for a maximum of 2 hours.

Our automatic renewals make extending your loan seamless, with up to 12 automatic renewals possible per loan if no one else requests the item.

For the general public (aka community borrowers), loan periods will also be 30 days, but with a maximum of two automatic renewals (an approximate total loan period of 60 days).

We’re making this change to reduce confusion around loan periods for different categories of borrowers and different types of items, while better managing the demands on the collection.

Need to check when one of your borrowed items is due? Visit the ‘View your loans and holds’ page.
