Faces of your library: Burwood

Often behind the scenes dispatching and shelving books, or at their computers responding to students on Library Chat, our Library Advisory Services staff are some of the most helpful people on the planet! In the ‘Faces of your library’ series, you’ll get a chance to meet the staff at each campus library who you might find at the service desk, wandering among the shelves or responding to your questions online.

Meet the Burwood Advisory Services team, our Library Student Assistant Asees Kaur and the ‘double threat’ advisory/copyright officer Luke Watsford!

Favourite library services

Team:

  1. Orientation: putting students on the right foot to start their learning journey
  2. Service Desk: meeting the students face-to-face and sharing in their enthusiasm
  3. Library Chat: chatting to students from around the world whenever they need support

Asees:

My favourite library service is the chat service. I can reach out with any questions I have without any hesitation at any time of the day or night! I have always found them friendly and helpful, and recommend the service to everyone.

Luke:

The chat service is a great way to get assistance from library staff, at all hours of the day, from anywhere you might find yourself.

Top three tips for using the library

Team:

  1. No question is too silly. Come and say hi at the service desk or contact the library via chat, phone or email.
  2. Attend library sessions, workshops and tours whenever you get the chance.
  3. Use permalinks for any resources you find. These will ensure you and other Deakin users can go directly to the resource using your login credentials.

Asees:

  1. The library has a variety of seating arrangements from couches to adjustable desks and from brightly lighted areas to sunlit areas. Look around and find a spot that works best for you.
  2. The library service desk is your friend. Don’t hesitate to go over and ask questions or raise concerns. They’d be more than happy to assist you.
  3. Take advantage of the microwave hub at Burwood Library! Hot water availability means you get all the caffeine dose you need.

Luke:

  1. The staff! We are here to help, and love helping. Help us do what we love by asking us a question!
  2. Learning to create an effective advanced search will save you time in the long run.
  3. Explore the databases we have; there is more than just books and journal articles. Students have access to some amazing resources.
